I'm not actually a big fan of Scooby Doo, but when i saw this thumbnail, I got drawn to it like a moth to a lightbulb. The vibrant, warm and plain colors are fantastic to lend the picture a retro look, but such retro appearance is toned down by a fresh, yet precise trace, with strong inks and very subtle gradients to compliment the drawing. The colors application is outstandingly equilibrated, with purple and orange, and two opposite saturations of brown in hairs.
Both expressions are fantastic, and even if I don't recall Velma have such alluring... physique, I think the fact that is not a direct copy but rather a reinterpretation of these great characters is what makes this illustration have so much success. They allow viewers to see these characters under another light, a more modern, stylized light which was exactly what Daphne and Velma needed.
If there has to be a quirk, it would be, of course, the lack of a background. While this one suits just perfectly with it's great subtle yellow tone, is still an easy way out, for an illustration that deserves more than that.
A fantastic piece, eye catching and expertly made. Should be Weekly Deviation
Both look gorgeous, I must say though, Daphne is a little too thin, and her shoulder looks disproportionate.
Adore the colors you used, you really took your time on this it looks, and it really showed off! Daphne's skin to me looks a bit to peachy, almost a pale orange, but that maybe just because she's standing next to Velma, who is pretty pale.
Adore the technique you used when drawing them, the crisp lines and the beautiful colors show better with them in your style. =]
From the wrinkles in Daphne's handkerchief, to the freckles on Velma's face, this is a beautiful piece.
Keep it up!
